A Wily Wyrm

Creativity perched
upon the tips of my fingers
smoulders with internal fires
ready to bite
or take flight
at the slightest flinch.

In my stillness,
I can feel its tiny claws curl
as it begins
to nibble on my nails.

Persistent Prodigy

Small sneakers pound pavement
running into wind.

Tiny fingers grip frigid fencing
as the body bounds over would-be barriers
to go as the crow flies.

Willful,
the young heart beats faster--
eyes fixed on the improbable coastline
impatient to swim
in the sea of possibilities.
