Forced through the flaming hoops

tucks up her tail

Surrendering to Twilight
Suspended somewhere
mesopelagic,
aware of the catsharks and dragonfishes,
the coelacanths and firefly squid,
I gaze down to the abyss
and feel myself sinking.
Contemplating the desire to
develop scale and fin--
to dive deeper,
I'm turned and twisted
as whalesong bends my bones
into tuning forks,
the reverberation
forcing me to face the light--
encouraging me to surface yet again.

Wading Through the Clutter
Trapped in a myriad
of memory's texture and scent,
I move objects cautiously
lest I cause an emotional avalanche.
A soundless cacophony
deafens my reason
as I grope my way past
stopped clocks and dusty picture frames
only to beat my wings against
the bent bars of a gilded bird cage.
