Random Wisdom: Crowfoot - Life

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.” ~ Crowfoot

A Visit with Grandpa

Sacred swirls
twirl around my toes
as Neptune
pulls back his beard to cast
his frothy tresses at my feet--
netting my heart again
and again.

The surf's eternal rumbles
caress my soul
if only for these few precious hours.

Random Wisdom: G. W. Huber - Magic

As adults, we give up the pretenses of childhood. Stupidly, we sacrifice those things in the name of growing up. The magic which once told us that things really could be all right is replaced by the world of newspapers and nightly news; the world that tells us that nothing, ever, is really right.

We trade our simple faith for cynicism and our dreams for a working reality. Once we've let it go, we cannot get it back. We lose the magic simply by failing to believe in it.

Willing the Spin

Standing on a morning shore,
I scry the water's gray glass surface
for direction
as the haze has confused my compass
yet again.
Impatient for the ground
to center me,
I skip the first flat stone
and watch the ripples
create concentric chaos.

Random Wisdom: Fyodor Dostoyevsky - Destruction

“Right or wrong, it's very pleasant to break something from time to time.”  ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Une vision d'Edward James (A Vision of Edward James)

Posing a reflection,
the poet focuses forward
surrealistically stealing
his face from view--
commissioning his portrait
to surreptitiously stand behind
his patronage of the painter.

The Corporate Swallowtail (Butterfly Cinquain)

Wanting
to spread my wings
and fly free from this place--
to release my mind from this toil.
My soul
longs to shine, to be seen and heard.
Bound by expectation,
my heart sighs deep
and weeps.

Note: A butterfly cinquain is a poem comprised of 9 lines with a syllable structure of: 2-4-6-8-2-8-6-4-2.

Freed by Fender

Succumbing to
the high-pitched wail of electricity,
I'm lost
in the deftness of legendary fingers.

Behind closed eyes
colors shift with the contrast of sounds
cradling my heart
to liberate my soul.

My take on Monday Musings: June 9, 2014 - Image Prompt. No matter how draining the day, there's not much a screaming guitar can't break through... ;)

A Wistfulness

Oh, to sit on the shore
of an island in the sky
fishing for nothing but sunshine.

To feel the cloud's kiss
as the breeze rolls him by
and the slight tug of light on the line.

Prompt Inspired by: National Geographic Photograph; April 28, 2014 -- Island in the Sky

Photograph by Shane Kalyn

"There is an ethereal, otherworldly feeling to this photograph, as this little island in the middle of Tumuch Lake in northern British Columbia appears as if it's floating in the clouds," says Shane Kalyn, who submitted this photo to the National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. "To bring us back to Earth, a fish has left a ripple in the water on the left-hand side of the shot. The scene was amazing to witness, let alone be lucky enough to photograph—totally the right place at the right time."

Random Wisdom: Dr. Seuss - Wistfulness

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory...” ~ Dr. Seuss

Leaning Against the Veil

Like Alice spying
a garden through the keyhole,
I wait--
carefully contemplating
the cost of the key.
