Under the Evergreens
They offered up
a corporate cordial,
sickly sweet and served
with a sly smile.
I declined.
As co-workers nibbled
on tidbits and held tight
to their raffle tickets,
I bought my own bourbon
and wondered what justification
will be used
this year
to put our wages on ice.
